All UNC employees, including student employees, are required to participate in direct deposit in order to receive a paycheck per the University’s Payroll Direct Deposit Policy. Direct deposit provides security, convenience, and assurance that your pay will be in your bank account on payday regardless of circumstances such as severe weather or other instances that result in University closings.

If it is your first time working as a student employee on-campus at UNC, or if it has been a while since you received a paycheck, you must update your Direct Deposit information in ConnectCarolina. Review the UNC Finance and Operations Payroll Guide for UNC-CH Employees for more information and instructions on how to set up and revise your Direct Deposit information in ConnectCarolina.

Failing to complete or update your Direct Deposit information may cause a delay in the receipt of your paycheck. Direct Deposit enables funds to be automatically deposited into your bank account on payday. Otherwise, you may have to wait on the department for which you are employed to pick up a physical hard copy of your paycheck so that you are then able to deposit your paycheck at a local branch of your bank.

Please note, if you continue to receive physical hard copies of your paycheck for three pay periods after you are hired, Payroll Services will begin to hold future hard copies of your paycheck until a Direct Deposit authorization is submitted in ConnectCarolina. If this is the case, it is advised that you speak with your supervisor, contact the department’s HR representative and complete the Direct Deposit authorization in ConnectCarolina immediately.
